Brendan Gheen has spent his entire adult life being responsible for other people’s safety.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps out of Ocean City High School. After September 11, he was recalled to active duty, served in Kosovo, and was part of the initial push into Iraq.

Then he came home and kept serving. Brendan spent the next twenty years with the Ocean City Police Department, retiring as a sergeant in 2025 after a career that included multiple awards for life-saving actions.

He also knows what this island’s weather can do, because it happened to him. When Superstorm Sandy severely damaged his own home, Brendan learned firsthand what every shore homeowner quietly fears: how fast it happens, what it costs, and how much it matters that someone capable is paying attention.

That is why Galleon exists. Home watch is not a career change for Brendan. It is a continuation. He has protected this community for more than two decades. Now he does it one home at a time.

And the training travels. Both the Marine Corps and the police department taught him to walk into an uncertain situation, determine what is happening, protect what can still be protected, and take the right first action. When a pipe bursts, a door is forced open, or a heating system fails in the middle of winter, many people would need to call someone else simply to understand what they were looking at. Brendan does not. He takes the first protective steps and communicates clearly with the licensed professional who may be needed next.

He lives in Ocean City year-round. He founded the Ocean City youth wrestling program in 2003 and still coaches today. There is a decent chance he already knows your street.
